PHILOSOPHY

About

Brief profile of the Department: The department of Philosophy was introduced in the year 2017. Initially started with a postgraduate programme, the department now offers research programmes (M.Phil. and Ph.D.) too. Since the very beginning the department has envisioned a curriculum that would facilitate a nationally competitive as well as globally comprehensive understanding of the discipline. Fostering a philosophical mind has also been deemed to be another key objective. Apart from learning the specifics of Philosophy as an academic discipline, the department also insists on developing students’ skill of critico-spiritual reflection, logical analysis and ethical evaluation to be applied in the broader context of life.
Thrust Areas of Study: Indian Philosophy including schools and philosophers – both traditional and contemporary, Western Philosophy including classical, modern, analytic and continental trends, ideas and philosophers, Philosophy of Religion, Modern Logic, Moral Philosophy, Social Philosophy, Applied Ethics and the Philosophy of Srimanta Sankaradeva.
Activities: As part of academic activities, the department regularly organizes seminars, invited talks, celebrates World Philosophy Day and provides coaching for examinations like NET and SET.
