About
The Department of Economics came into existence in 2017 with the objectives of producing quality professionals in the field of economics to provide a) a general understanding of the functioning of the economic system and the role of institutions, groups, and regions within that system b) to prepare the student for employment in industry, government and other professions, or to pursue graduate work towards such advanced degrees as the B.A., M.A., Mphil and Ph.D. in economics.
TARGET
- To develop the Understanding of Micro and Macroeconomic Theory and Their Application to the Economic Sub-fields.
- To development the Understanding of Basic Statistics and Mathematics, Econometrics and Correlation and Regression Analysis and Their Application in Applied Research.
- To Improve the Critical Thinking Skills and the Accumulation of Realistic Knowledge
- Application of Critical Thinking to Factual Knowledge and the Development of Effective Decision Making Skills
- Tendering a assorted Selection of Courses to promote a Broad Knowledge Base in the Field

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1.The Department of Economics organized an Investment Awareness Programme on 7th February 2018 and the invited Speaker was Mr S. Sarathy, SBI Life Insurance, Guwahati.
2. The Department of Economics organized a National Seminar on “TODAY’S YOUTH: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN NORTHEAST INDIA” on 6th and 7th April 2018, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, Nagaon.
3.The Department of Economics organized an Eight Days Workshop cum Training Programme on RESEARCH METHODOLOGY IN HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES w.e.f.10th July to 17th July 2019, in collaboration with the Department of Education, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, Nagaon, Assam.
4. The Department of Economics organized a two-day Departmental seminar on ‘Emerging issues in Indian economy’ during 20th and 21st February 2020.
Departmental Seminar: We have already organized two departmental seminars with full papers.
Research Paper: Students have to submit at least one research assignment during the tenure of the course.
