The Department of Assamese of MSSV has been established in 2014 as one of the first Department of this University with an aim to seize unique identity among the similar departments of the various universities. The Department is achieving Multi-linear visions, informative resources, value education, quality production and so on. Inclusion of Language, Literature and Culture as the thrust areas of the study and research are the succession of its goal and will be the triumph of this Department. This Department will lead to explore North-East Indian Language, Literature, Culture relating to the South-East Asia and also cover the PAN Indian nature of these areas which will show the gateway of Global environment.

Prime objectives:

1. To provide in-depth knowledge in language, Literature and Culture covering from their history to recent development through their evolution.

2. To provide the critical view and to develop the analytical aptitude in the study of these areas.

3. To help the students to improve their intelligence in research on their interested areas.

4. To help the students to enrich their knowledge through the study of great scholars and their contributions in the society as a whole.

5. To provide the knowledge on linguistics and practical application of linguistic theories in the context of North-East Indian languages.

6. To provide the knowledge of language technology through which the students can contribute and they will be a complementary asset in the field of Information Technology.



Courses & Programmes

1. B.A. (Major)

Eligibility for Admission to B.A. (Major) Programmes: A student who passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, or any equivalent examination recognised as such by the University shall be eligible for admission to the First Semester of the Six Semester B.A. (Major) programme.

2.M.A. in Assamese

Eligibility for Admission : At least 45% marks in Major in Assamese or at least 50% marks in the subject Assamese having on aggregate of at least 45% marks in B.A.

Duration of the Programme : 2 years (4-Semesters)

Intake Capacity : 40 Nos.

Method of Selection : Merit basis giving preference to the candidates having Major in Assamese.
